Batteries:
Regular maintenance of batteries is critical to the performance of your boat's charging system and house electrics.
- Check water levels every month in summer and top up with distilled water if low
- Lead acid batteries will sulphate the plates if left in a half charged or low state for a prolonged period of time
- Think about fitting a fully automatic charger, this can be left connected with no harm to batteries.
- Sixty percent of Coastguard callouts are for flat batteries. Consider installing a second battery in your vessel.
LEDs
(Light Emitting Diodes) are a relatively new innovation to the Marine Industry. Think about changing your boat lighting to LED lighting. Power consumption will be minimised and reliability will be optimised.
Winches:
- Check Annually:
Mounting Bolts
Gearbox Bolts - Connections loose or corroded - hint spray with softseal CRC
- Bi Annually:
Remove top clutch assembly
Lube
Check for wear in seals and bushing - Remember Winches are like your outboard they require care and maintenance.
